When Alice tumbled down the rabbit hole, I think she may have landed here at Sotto on West. You'll see her inside on the Mad Hatter's tea party mural and if you get a chance, you'll find her hanging out in the backyard. The real evidence would be her teapot and teacups that hang upside down from the ceiling.
paleo, P A L E O, paleo
That's how a Great Australian Spelling Bee contestant would spell it but how would they say it? How do you say it? Is it "pah-lee-o" or "pay-lee-oh"? The trusty google search confirmed both versions are right.Growing up in Manly, I remember the after dinner beach walks with mum and dad. The first resting spot would be the information kiosk and then I would meet them further along at the playground. That information kiosk is now The Pantry, serving the locals and visitors alike with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Dare to be different?
Once out of our comfort zone, it's natural for us to feel a bit anxious or even scared. Haven took a chance at being different in providing a unique cafe experience with an Asian infused menu and tailoring coffee just for you. It definitely put me out of my comfort zone but it was worth it!Have you lost your car in a shopping centre car park? I once thought mine was stolen only to discover I had absentmindedly parked elsewhere (doh!). Now I take photos to remind me and I did exactly that at Castle Towers. Yellow 1A Row 3, tick. The Reject Shop, tick. Now where in the world is The Baron?
After 20 minutes I found it outside the shopping centre, near the bus stop on Old Castle Hill Rd. Oozing with some serious cool factor, it's filled with conversations mixed with kitchen clatter and some funky beats. Small wooden tables for two line the bare concrete walls opposite the open kitchen and a restored communal table is the centre piece.

I'm still to check it out but I have managed to drop by The Baron three times in one week catching up with friends - I don't even need to take a photo of my car anymore :)

Breaking the Moroccan fast
I was so excited when I heard Out of Africa was doing brunch on weekends. What exotic flavours will I be treated to? My last experience in this African oasis was pretty good, sharing many different delicious dishes for dinner.A stranger to Moroccan breakfast cuisine, I wanted to try everything from the breakfast menu. Wishing that I could I had to settle on one option from each category "breaking your fast", "breakfast tajines" and "sweeter breakfast".

A friend of mine is back in town for a few months working at Concord Hospital so I took that as a mission to find a new brunch place for a girly catch up. Just eight minutes from the hospital, the Little Tarte has an all day breakfast menu and a display of the most delicious looking sweets.
Bathed in the sunlight on the corner of Tennyson Rd and Edwin St, this cute cafe is directly opposite Breakfast Point. Small and intimate, you can sit on the bar stools by the windows looking out or outside where you can entertain your pet(s) or if there is a spare seat, join the large communal table inside.
The three of us sat at the end of the communal table engrossed in the latest dramas, so much that we didn't even realise it was order and pay at the counter service. By paying at the counter your eyes get to feast on an array of little tartes and scones, yummy! Maybe this is on purpose?
The breakfast menu has nine choices covering both sweet and savoury and for the hungry or not so hungry. I was the hungry one and couldn't decide between the Sauteed wild mushrooms bruschetta $15 or the Corn fritters. I got the latter with extra fried eggs which was a perfect combination.
If you like to make up your own breakfast plate there is an option of fried or scrambled eggs on sonoma toast plus additional sides of your choice. Here the scrambled eggs was a huge mound of fluffiness covering almost half the plate.
You probably can tell I am not a muesli person so it's quite rare to see a bowl of bircher on my blog. I do love it when someone else orders it as I watch on, scoop after scoop of hidden surprises. This bowl was filled with yogurt and berry compote.
Tempted by my "pay at the counter" visit, I tried a scone which was nice and fluffy with their delicious housemade vanilla cream. I also had a lemon meringue tart that was just as amazing. They know how to make their tartes!
Popular for their sweets and savoury pastries, it's nice that there is coffee and breakfast too. If you're a local, you really could hang out here and enjoy the sunshine or if you had to visit Concord Hospital drop in for a little treat.
Mission accomplished? I sure hope so!
