Sotto on West, North Sydney ♥

When Alice tumbled down the rabbit hole, I think she may have landed here at Sotto on West. You'll see her inside on the Mad Hatter's tea party mural and if you get a chance, you'll find her hanging out in the backyard. The real evidence would be her teapot and teacups that hang upside down from the ceiling.

A little quirky you might think but wait until you get the menu. Nothing is what it seems! The dish titles are all cryptic or very "punny" so luckily there is a short description. Breakfast is served all day and specials seem to change seasonally. There's also lots of cakes and pastries if you want something light.

Passion for buttery eggs with trout $18.50
Sotto on West's version of eggs benedict. Smoked trout, baby spinach with wholegrain honey mustard hollandaise and a sprinkle of chives on toast. I always get excited when there is a variation of hollandaise.
Stop being so corny! $17.50
Oh the pun! If you like corn fritters, these are worth a try. Full of corn, zucchini and broccoli, it is served with chipotle salsa, avocado and grilled haloumi cheese. I would say this is my favourite dish here.
The hangover cure $11
In need of a greasy fix after a big night? There's eggs, smoked bacon with housemade tomato relish on a panini, fresh from brasserie bakery.
The Ron Burgundy $13
This bowl of healthy stuff is delicious. Housemade fresh bircher muesli done in beetroot juice covered in organic honey and yogurt and topped with red apple, rockmelon, poached burgundy and elderflower pears.
Did the pig come before the egg? $19.50
Autumn 2015 special.
This pretty fried egg appeared to dominate the dish at first glance but underneath was a pile of pork. Bacon, spicy pancetta and house made pork, fennel, chive and goats curd sausages. I loved the sausages. To lighten things up, there's a potato and onion hash and tomato & apple chutney.
Feeling wild? $17.50
Autumn 2015 special.
This combination was tasty! There are days where I love nothing more than mixed mushrooms sauteed in garlic butter and a yolky egg. Thrown into the mix is asparagus, spinach, goats curd and walnuts.

Located on the corner of West and Carlow St in North Sydney, this sun drenched cafe is always busy especially on weekends. I would give this place ♥♥♥ but the service is lacking consistently and I hope they do improve as it's a great brunchspot. Been back a few times so hopefully next time.

  1. Quirky names aside, I felt there was nothing distinguished about the food offer aside from a multitude of bacon opportunities. Concur with your low score, but not because of service!
