Seems like the brunch epidemic is slowly spreading into Parramatta. Paper Plane Cafe nudges in second on the brunch scene with weekend queues crowding the footpath, constant coffee takeaways and pretty enticing foodie pics all over social media.

Instead of waiting in the queue and watching the plates of food tease by, surprisingly I beat the weekend brunch rush and was seated straight away at 10.30am. The quaint cafe has an old Parisian feel where fresh flowers adorn the indoor and outdoor tables. 


I wanted to order everything on the all day breakfast menu. There's french toast, truffled eggs, smoked salmon eggs benedict, smashed avocado - we settled for the two breakfast platters that pretty much had everything savoury off the menu.

The Vegetarian Plate $17

When I said everything, I meant everything! The vegetarian platter contained the scrambled eggs with truffle oil drizzled on top, portobello mushrooms, rocket, half an avocado, tomatoes, asparagus, pesto and feta.

The Tiny Dancer $18

The Tiny Dancer was far from tiny! The generous servings probably could have fed two or three tiny dancers. The platter was a treat as I made different combinations with my favourites - poached eggs, smoked salmon, spinach, hollandaise, avocado, spinach, tomatoes, asparagus and boccocini cheese.

Cappuccino $3.50, Fresh watermelon juice $5.00

After smashing everything and washing it all down with their fresh watermelon juice, the food coma settled in. With cool cafes like this appearing in Parramatta, we could start calling it Parramatta, "Paris-matta"!

We finally decided to hit up Brewtown Newtown and ended up bopping away to some good old 90's hits during our feast. The girls even started to sing along and at that moment I felt old. I knew the words. I remembered the dance moves. Those awkward adolescent moments... I have digressed.

Lychee & raspberry brewnut $5.50

Not so secretly, I was here for the Brewnut(s). I desperately wanted to try the rocky road one but there weren't any so I settled for the lychee & raspberry one with that little sugar coated rose petal. So sweet. So naughty.


These Brewnuts are freshly cranked out of Brewtown Newtown where you can see the long lines of waiting customers from the main road. We were amongst them, twice. First time we skipped the 90 minute wait for another brunch spot, second time we persevered for over an hour at 10am.

It's starts off with the light, slightly tangy buttery hollandaise, then the perfectly oozing poached egg, then a mouthful of the combo presented on the plate to taste... That's how I narrowed down the following Sydney brunch spots for eggs benny in 2014.

Four ate Five, Surry Hills Trade the good old english muffin for a croissant and you have the delicious Four ate Five eggs benedict special. Extra butter and pastry - how can you go wrong? Served all day, miss the brunch rush for a shorter wait in the queue.

THELMA & LOUISE, NEUTRAL BAY Is it the soft fluffy bread, the sense of buttery salty goodness or the water view? This has been a long standing favourite for $18, also available with ham.

CYREN, DARLING HARBOUR Yes in the heart of Sydney city and opened on a weekend, Cyren has eggs benedict three ways on their menu - leg ham or sauteed spinach $15 or smoked salmon $16. Did I mention the waterfront view of Darling Harbour too? my review
